Taro Sakaguchi
Taro Sakaguchi spent his childhood (around the age of 1-5) in London, England, due to his parents' work. What I saw and felt in England as a young child has influenced the way I paint and the way I go about my life since then. I got my motorcycle license in my second year of high school when I was about 17 years old under the influence of a friend. I used to ride my motorcycle there up until I was about 35 years old. Wind and rain, varying temperatures and overwhelming winter cold. To exaggerate, I spent my time feeling the earth with my whole body. I had the support of a friend who worked in a motorcycle shop, so I rode it all the time. However, I began to wonder where I was headed, and I began to take my painting work in a Tokyo apartment I had rented since I was about 30 years old very seriously. Taro Sakaguchi paints abstract paintings, which have to dowith the speed and scenery he feels on his motorcycle, the way things move, and the scenery he sees in the mountains he arrives in. I'm always eager to see something new. The same is true of abstract pictorial representation. We want to make something new and better every year, even if it's just a little bit.
