Ashley Buttercup is an impressionist painter who studies textures and movement. She focuses on the relationships between unconsciousness, expression, and motion.

While there is a strategy to her choice in colour and balance, being hearing-impaired, her primary focus is on the music she listens to, which allows her to let go of some control. Her work is heavily influenced by her emotions and dictates the songs she plays and the colours she selects. Through dense paint strokes, she hopes to evoke emotional sensations.

When not painting gestural interpretations, Ashley explores other avenues of art such as landscape paintings, paper collaging, and embroidery. She is currently based in Brooklyn, NY.
