"In each piece, I explore how far from a realistic representation I can stray before the image falls into abstraction and in that space I look for new opportunities to tell stories and to connect to others. Similar to the inkblot or Rorscharch test, I rely on forms to emerge out of an abstract composition. I play with various strategies of applying paint from dripping, running, spraying and smearing to using long sticks that apply paint strokes with confidence and awkwardness in equal measure. All of these methods are intended to help overcome the mold of a traditional academic education and to create a genuine, visceral and personal experience."
