Textile is a medium of great significance for the spiritual and art tradition of Greece. From the Parthenon frieze and the veil of the Mysteries to the Good Friday epitath, textile is seen as the bearer of the unspeakable and eternal truth governing life and death.

Seven international textile artists (Canada, USA, Israel/Italy, Germany, Hong Kong) study and interpret with contemporary means the distinctive textile tradition of Tsakonia. The local motifs reflect ideals of beauty and home harmony and echo the travels and experiences of the intrepid Tsakonian merchants in remote countries. The artists ambition to engage in a fruitful dialogue with the Tsakonian textile tradition and imagine new ways for the ancient discipline to evolve.

The Pyrgos Tsikalioti - the show venue - is an early 19th century defensive  monument enchanting visitors with the beauty and complexity of its construction. It is also called "the jewel of Tsakonia".
